The DE Beam Control Conference is the premier conference in DOD laser beam power projection and was recently expanded to include sessions dedicated to free-space laser communications and advanced adaptive optics. This year's meeting will be co-located with Advanced High Power Lasers (AHPL) and will include joint sessions with AHPL. Registrants for the Beam Control Conference may attend sessions of AHPL without additional registration fees if they meet the participation criteria.

As a forum for these considerations, the seventh annual Beam Control Conference will investigate issues surrounding the employment of DE weapons. The 2012 DE Beam Control Conference maintains its focus as the premier DoD conference in laser beam power projection, while also including sessions dedicated to space situational awareness, free-space laser communication, and advanced adaptive optics.

Conference Highlights

  • Technical presentations and poster papers
  • Invited speakers
  • Co-located with Advanced High Power Lasers
  • Short courses
  • Evening reception
  • Exhibits
  • Webcasts of selected unclassified sessions

Agenda

A complete agenda, including sessions, will be available here when known. Until then, a listing of submitted abstracts is available, providing insight into the technical program. This listing shows abstracts submitted to date for which the authors have granted permission to be included in this online list. More may be added, so check back later for a more complete list. Also, abstracts can be withdrawn, rejected, or change titles before the conference, so not every abstract listed here will become a presentation at the conference; however, most of them will.

Call for Papers

The 2012 Beam Control Conference is soliciting contributed abstracts for presentations in the technical program. Abstracts should be submitted following the instructions in the Submissions section below. The organizers of the Conference are interested in receiving abstracts on any beam control topic but are especially interested in the topics listed below.

Selected presentations will be webcast. These presentations must be open, public release and must have the approval of their authors, as indicated on their release forms. The specific presentations to webcast will be selected after the technical program is determined. Preference will be given to presentations in sessions with a sequence of presentations that meet the webcast criteria.

The Beam Control Conference will publish all submitted presentations and papers that have been properly released by a sponsoring government agency and have proper classification markings. Once available, these proceedings will be provided to conference attendees free of charge; others will be able to purchase the proceedings through our Online Store.

Joint Session

The Laser-Beam Control Interface or The Development of an Optically Efficient HEL Weapon System

A Joint Session is planned for the AHPL and Beam Control Conference which addresses issues related to integrating an HEL weapon's optical train from the resonator to the exit aperture with a goal of maximizing far field irradiance. Our community has a tradition of separately developing lasers and beam control systems then attempting forced marriages. The results have frequently led to complications and inefficiency. By bridging this specification (and frequently contractor) interface with a mix of invited and solicited papers, the session's goal is to provide laser and beam control specialists with a bit of history, some lessons learned during prior systems integrations, and a few ideas to benefit future system integration plans. Papers which address the above issues are solicited.

Submission Instructions

Abstracts

Abstracts must be unclassified and were due by 15 February 2012. Nevertheless, abstracts are still being accepted.. Abstracts should be submitted online by completing this form and must include: presentation title, a complete description of the presentation/paper, author's names/organizations, lead author contact information, expected classification of the presentation/paper as well as the expected distribution restrictions. Questions about abstract submission may be directed to sam@deps.org.

Authors will be notified by 12 March of acceptance of their paper for presentation and/or publication. Additional instructions for submitting papers and presentations will be provided at that time.

Note: While an automated email is sent confirming receipt of your abstract, it is known that many military domains (e.g., af.mil) block delivery of such an email. If you do not receive email confirmation, you may check this listing of submitted abstracts. This listing is dynamically generated based on abstracts received at the time the page is displayed. If the title of your abstract is contained in this listing, it has been received by DEPS.

Location and Accommodations

Technical sessions of the Beam Control Conference will be held at the Omni Interlocken Resort at 500 Interlocken Boulevard, Broomfield, Colorado and at off-site locations. Directions to the hotel are available through its Web page.

A block of rooms at government rates for all attendees has been reserved at the Omni. To take advantage of these rates, call the hotel at 303 438-6600 and mention that you are attending this DEPS event.

The Omni and the off-site location for the classified meetings are not within walking distance. A shuttle bus will be available for travel between venues. Private auto access to the off-site location is restricted. There is a shuttle service from Denver Airport that stops at the Omni as well. Participation in the Beam Control Conference will not require that attendees rent a vehicle for local transportation.

Companions

Companions are always a welcome addition to any DEPS meeting. To encourage them, we offer companion meal options at an additional cost. Our full meal option includes all meals that are provided for regular attendees including any evening and specialty functions that may be planned. For those companions who do not want to be tied to scheduled meal functions, we also offer an evening meal option. This option, which includes only the evening and specialty event functions, allows companions access to the "fun" portions of our events. Companion meal tickets will be available for sale when registration opens.
