Call for Papers

Contributions are solicited for presentation at the Symposium from all areas relevant to directed energy (DE). The conference will highlight discussions of current scientific advances, programs, technology efforts, military utility, technical basis, past technical accomplishments and disappointments, and the future of directed energy. The 2012 program is being organized with an emphasis on Technological assessment of worldwide DE capability. The Symposium Program Committee will select contributions to the technical program based on submitted abstracts.

Proposed Focus Session Topics

Contributions are solicited in all areas of DE including:

  • Laser effects
  • RF DE effects
  • DE policy, safety, test and training
  • Major DE programs
  • Counter DE
  • DE beam control and propagation
  • Laser components and devices
  • RF DE components and devices
  • Laser systems and technology
  • Energy, power, and thermal management for DE
  • DE M&S
  • DEW employment on the battlefield
  • However, the Symposium Program Committee is particularly interested in contributions pertaining to these special topic areas:

  • Pulsed lasers and pulsed laser effects
  • Synergistic application of DE and Kinetic effects
  • Numerical simulation of DE components and devices
  • DE for space situational awareness
  • DE in space

    Submissions

All persons wishing to present at the 2012 Annual Symposium must submit an abstract for consideration. Abstracts must be unclassified and submitted online by completing this form. Abstracts are due no later than 23 May 2012 and must include: paper title, a complete description of the paper, author’s names/organizations, lead author contact information, expected classification of the presentation as well as the expected distribution restrictions.

Note: While an automated email is sent confirming receipt of your abstract, it is known that many military domains (e.g., af.mil) block delivery of such an email. If you do not receive email confirmation, you may check this listing of submitted abstracts. This listing is dynamically generated based on abstracts received at the time the page is displayed. If the title of your abstract is contained in this listing, it has been received by DEPS.

The Program Committee will inform authors by 2 July 2012 if their contributions are selected for inclusion in the Symposium Technical Program. Student presenters will be informed later than other authors.

Selected presentations may be webcasted. These presentations must be open, public release and must have the approval of their authors, as indicated on their release forms. The specific presentations to webcast will be selected after the technical program is determined. Preference will be given to presentations in sessions with a sequence of presentations that meet the webcast criteria.

Authors are encouraged to submit papers as well as presentations. Papers accompanying presentations selected for the technical program will be published in the Symposium proceedings and should follow the DEPS Conference Paper Format. Upon author approval, papers may be forwarded for consideration by editors of the Journal of Directed Energy, a peer-reviewed publication

Detailed instructions for submitting presentations and papers will be provided upon abstract acceptance.
