With the enhanced role for Free Electron Lasers for DoD Directed Energy applications, a Free Electron Lasers Conference is being co-located with the Ultrashort Pulse Laser Workshop and the Solid State and Diode Laser Technology Review (SSDLTR) as part of the Advanced High-Power Lasers Review. The goals for this Conference include providing a unique opportunity to present and discuss military FEL technology, science and applications, and for this community to interact with leading scientists working in the broader range of non-DoD FEL science and technology. Accordingly, the Workshop contains sessions at Public Release, Limited Distribution, and Classified levels.

Enhancing FEL performance to the levels desired by DoD will benefit both the military and the broader research and industrial communities. This Conference will provide a unique opportunity for all three of these groups to come together.

Registrants who meet the participation criteria Advanced High-Power Lasers Meeting will be able to attend sessions of all three meetings for a single registration fee. There will be a public release joint technical session available to all attendees of the Advanced High-Power Lasers meeting.

Highlights

  • Plenary presentations from leaders in FEL laser science and technology
  • Invited and contributed technical presentations highlighting the latest advances in the field
  • Joint public release session with the co-located Ultrashort Pulse Laser Workshop and SSDLTR
  • Public release, limited, and classified sessions
  • Short courses
  • Conference reception
  • Oral and poster presentations
  • Ample networking opportunities
  • Technical exhibits (Government and Industry)
  • Public release and limted distribution CD Proceedings

Call for Papers

Contributions are solicited for presentation at the Free Electron Lasers Conference in the topic areas below.

  • High-Power FEL Science and Technology
  • Compact and Energy Efficient FELs
  • Optical Elements, Beam Directors and Relay Mirrors for High-Power FEL Beams
  • Atmospheric propagation of High-Power FEL Beams
  • Materials Interactions with High-Power FEL Beams
  • LADAR, Communications and Sensing with FEL Beams

Presentations addressing other technical areas related to high-power FELs will also be considered. The Conference Program Committee will select presentations for inclusion in the technical program based on submitted abstract.

Authors are encouraged to submit papers as well as presentations. Submitted papers will published as part of the Conference proceedings, and upon author approval, may be forwarded for consideration by editors of the Journal of Directed Energy, a peer-reviewed publication.

Student Participation

Student participation in the meeting is encouraged. Depending on the number of student speakers, a special student session will be scheduled.

Submissions

The Free Electon Lasers Conference will accept presentations and papers at the public release, limited distribution (C), and classified (Secret) levels. Presentation with ITAR restrictions will be presented in classified (Secret) sessions as long as the presenter has the appropriate clearance. All authors will be required to obtain appropriate approval to present in the relevant format. Please allow plenty of time for the approval process. Authors may choose to include their presentation in the public release or limited distribution proceedings.

Abstracts
The deadline for submitting abstracts has passed. Please contact Roy Whitney with questions on submitting abstracts.

Authors will be notified of their acceptance by 15 March. Instructions for submitting presentations will be provided at that time.

Release Forms

Release forms are required for all presentations submitted to the Free Electron Laser Conference. No presentations will be permitted without the appropriate release form. The appropriate release forms are also required for authors who desire to publish their abstracts or submit papers for publication. Abstracts and papers cannot be published without these release forms.

Fully completed and signed forms should be faxed to 866-338-0967 or submitted by mail to the DEPS address below. Note that poster papers are considered presentations and the presentation release form should be used in those cases.
