High Energy Laser Lethality Conference 2005
14-17 March 2005 Tampa, Florida

Co-Hosted by the
US Army Space and Missile Defense Command
and
High Energy Laser Joint Technology Office

In Cooperation with the
High Energy Laser Lethality Technical Area Working Group

The Second High Energy Laser Lethality Conference assembled scientists and engineers conducting research within the broad technology area of High Energy Laser (HEL) weapon lethality analysis to discuss a variety of current topics.

The conference objective was threefold: 1) to identify and focus lethality work to better support the warfighter with particular emphasis on special operations missions, 2) to use the forum as a means to inform the HEL community of the latest findings regarding lethality work, and 3) to establish synergism with the modeling and simulation (M&S) community where lethality and M&S interact. To accomplish the first objective, operational elements of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines were invited to provide their perspectives through oral presentations, papers and poster sessions.

The intent of the Lethality Conference was to publish the proceedings after the conference including formal papers, presentations and poster papers. The conference was conducted at the Secret level and attendance was limited to U.S. citizens only.

The High Energy Laser Lethality Conference was conducted in parallel with the Directed Energy Modeling and Simulation Conference to enhance synergism between the two functional areas. The two conferences hosted some joint sessions and shared facilities and administrative resources. However, each conference plans to publish separate proceedings.
