Love at First Light: Successful Deployment of Four Raytheon DE M-SHORAD Laser Weapons to CENTCOM
How often does a new technology show up, plug in, and work right away? By designing to endure stressful environments and leveraging significant lab and field-testing, Raytheon ensured the beam control and imaging systems would hold calibration in a dynamic war zone. CENTCOM warfighters quickly fell in love with the HEL beam and conducted numerous live fire exercises to learn its capabilities, then integrated the HEL weapon systems into their layered base defense. This presentation will cover the lessons Raytheon carried forward from the lab to the test range to an active warzone, specifically the focus and boresight portions of beam control in hot, dry, and dusty environments.
