A Note on Segmented Chaotic Overmoded Cavities
A way to frame this problem is to place a hypothetical partially transmissive barrier between two segments of the enclosure. An interesting choice for this is the Apollonian Gasket (AG), which starts with a large circle enclosing two smaller circles and proceeds to fill the large circle with progressively smaller ones, each of which is tangent to three of the circles larger than it is, and all have integer curvature (inverse radius. This is a fractal problem that asymptotes to a completely filled circle. In this note we first consider the features of the AG and how we might apply it to this problem. Then we apply the principles of the Power Balance (PWB) formalism to predict how energy flow might respond to it. Finally, we explore the implications of modeling a loaded cavity with a sequence of AGs each associated with an identical loss.
