C-UAS DEWS with Integrated Atmospheric Decision Aid
The DE Environmental Decision System (DEEDS) is an add-on rack mounted processor to provide DE weapon operators with real-time environmental situation awareness and decision aid. This presentation reports on the latest status of integrating the DEEDS processor with a Counter Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) laser weapon system. Initial function demonstration began in October 2024 in Dayton, OH. DEEDS uses numerical weather prediction (NWP), LEEDR weather cubes, AI/ML surface level turbulence models, SHaRE and WaveTrain to annotate the operators console data feed in real-time with anticipated system performance estimates. Real-time atmospheric decision aid includes spatial contours of HEL performance in all azimuth and elevation angles as well as real-time wave-optics propagation based on current atmospheric conditions. The DEEDS processor is currently integrated into MZapp, the Navy’s palletized C-UAS laser weapon system.
