Innovative Magnetic Material Solutions for Navy High-Frequency Power Systems: A Program Overview and Preliminary Results
This talk will provide an overview of a new program, funded by ONR, for developing new magnetic materials to improve the efficiency of power electronics and high power microwave (HPM) systems. The program led by Northeastern University, in collaboration with Kostas Research Institute at Northeastern University (LLC), University of Pittsburgh, Dartmouth College, and Missouri Institute for Defense and Energy, focuses on developing high performance magnetic materials and composites operating at frequencies from 0.5 to 5 MHz for Navy power systems and up to and beyond 250 MHz for directed energy (DE) systems. The program also includes magnetic component modeling, to enable application-driven material development, and additive manufacturing, for cost-effective scalable production of magnetic components. Proposed solutions and preliminary results from each focus area will be presented to solicit feedback from the DE community.
This work is supported by the Office of Naval Research under Grant # N000142412513.
