The NPS Twin Otter Research Aircraft – A Tool for Characterizing the Atmospheric Propagation Conditions Along a Laser Beam Path
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) operates an instrumented Twin Otter research aircraft that is ideally suited to characterizing the atmospheric propagation conditions along a laser beam path. In this presentation an overview of the capabilities of the Twin Otter and the NPS airborne research facility will be presented along with a description of the on-board facility instrumentation available to measure the meteorological, aerosol/cloud, turbulence, and radiative properties along the path and throughout the boundary layer. The NPS Twin Otter can also integrate guest instrumentation required for a given project, and can operate both CONUS and OCONUS, from the tropics to the poles.
