Beam Director Assembly Manufacturing Technology Development

Lockheed Martin Orlando has delivered two Hammerhead™ Beam Director Assemblies (BDAs) for integration into ground-based mobile and fixed Laser Weapon Systems (LWS). We have gained experiences through the integration, assembly, and test during these efforts, which we would like to share with the community. Simultaneously, we have been working on developing manufacturability improvements funded by U. S. Army Manufacturing Technology, or Man Tech. Our Man Tech findings are not only applicable to the Hammerhead™ design but to BDAs in general. These are changes we are carrying forward into our next designs which significantly improve reliability, maintainability, and transportability.

Our BDA Man Tech efforts span the product from the component to subsystem level, along with the entire production process from facilities to support tooling. This presentation will summarize the results and present more details on the most impactful items. We are presenting these results to benefit the LWS community and to improve the products provided to our warfighters for the increasingly complex battlespaces of the future.
