Operational Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis of Laser Power Beaming for Non-Weapon Applications of Directed Energy Systems
Laser Power Beaming (LPB) is a revolutionary technology for long-range wireless power transmission using laser weapon systems. Here we focus on the methodologies and findings for a simulated maritime use case for LPB and the impact on ship operations. A custom-developed, Monte Carlo-based simulation framework quantitatively assesses the utility and tactical benefits of LPB compared to traditional energy delivery, considering factors such as power requirements and employment ranges. We simulate and analyze the operational utility for power beaming receivers over a range of technical advancements to explore the minimum requirements needed for significant operational benefit. Additionally, we discuss additional operational scenarios we are in the process of simulating.
