Abstract: 25-Systems-118

UNCLASSIFIED, PUBLIC RELEASE

Laser power beaming to replenish blue force small aerial vehicles executing defensive missions

Power beaming enables large-scale distribution of more than 100 W in the strategic or tactical domain via autonomous platforms. Power beaming receivers are narrowband to optimize the optical power converted into electrical power. We will discuss both near- and far-future receiver classes for power beaming., and specifically the Laser Power Beaming (LPB) system designed and built by the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center (SC) contractor, Physical Sciences Inc. in Andover MA, and a fiber-based LPB system built by cadets at West Point executing a Capstone project with oversight by the West Point Photonics Research Center and DEVCOM SC.

We will discuss future and current tests of these capabilities for extending mission times of small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) executing real defensive missions.
