Ready, Set, Lase! The Texas A&M University System’s range of Directed Energy RDT&E Capabilities
Texas A&M University System provides an integrated, range-enabled directed energy (DE) research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) enterprise designed to accelerate maturation and transition of DE technologies. This presentation highlights systemwide capabilities spanning indoor and outdoor test environments, with emphasis on the BAM Range, the outdoor DE test range, and outdoor platform test range as complementary assets for controlled experimentation and operationally relevant demonstrations. We summarize core measurement and instrumentation strengths, propagation and effects testing in representative environments, and the ability to couple modeling with experimentation to quantify performance drivers. The talk also outlines how these facilities and teams support scalable campaigns from component and subsystem characterization through end-to-end system demonstrations while enabling collaboration with government, industry, and academic partners. Collectively, the Texas A&M University System’s infrastructure and workforce form a cohesive DE ecosystem built to reduce risk, increase confidence, and deliver mission-relevant capability at speed.
