Decision Aids for DE Test Planning and Evaluation

MZA has developed a software tool to provide real-time assessment of weather-driven DE laser propagation performance. The Directed Energy Environmental Decision System (DEEDS) provides environmental situational awareness for Directed Energy (DE) system test planners. The DEEDS ties together powerful sensors and modeling tools developed by MZA – DELTA-Wx, MASS, SHaRE, and WaveTrain. We will demonstrate the functionality of DEEDS in a stand-alone system. Additionally, this presentation is focused on DEEDS integration with a newly emerging application, called Nexus. Nexus is a government-owned web application, hosted on DoD servers, that provides DE users with a vast amount of historical global weather and optical propagation data. The integration of measurements, modeling and forecasting capabilities into Nexus enables the broader DoD community to utilize Nexus for system performance modeling and DE test planning. Nexus provides a convenient interface to configure SHaRE and LEEDR WxCube analysis as well as engagement visualization for system performance prediction. The tools within Nexus are designed to be accessible on unclassified and classified DoD networks. This presentation includes demonstrations of utilizing Nexus for DEWS test planning, determining system operation limits, forecasting conditions, and post-test performance analysis.
