The Persistent Data Collection Capability (PDCC) for Laser Propagation Characterization at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.
The Persistent Data Collection Capability (PDCC) is a long-term sensor monitoring system at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) designed for open-air research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E). The PDCC integrates commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-designed sensors into a unified architecture for continuous data acquisition across the Potomac River Test Range (PRTR). This presentation details the PDCC’s hardware and software framework, including the remote automation of far-field instrumentation used to characterize laser performance. Furthermore, it analyzes a long-term measurement campaign of transmission and optical turbulence to identify trends affecting laser propagation. The resulting dataset will enhance the PDCC’s Naval Optical Turbulence - Transmissivity AI/ML (NOT-TAM) model by incorporating estimated transmission loss. Historical range data provides critical insights for future test planning, system modeling, and AI development.
