EMITTERS Software Provides Realistic Visualization of HPM Weapon Hazard Zones
The ElectroMagnetic Interactive Tool for Test & Evaluation of Radio-frequency Systems (EMITTERS) software supports directed energy (DE) high-power microwave (HPM) test planning with an intuitive and realistic 3D user interface and a dual-fidelity simulation approach. Using the Unity game engine, Verus Research created a tool specifically to assist HPM test planners in visualizing source system placement and orientation at any of 27 pre-defined site models. EMITTERS provides interactive assessment of system effectiveness, hazard zones, display of power levels and general range safety assessments. Real-time interactive plots of effectiveness regions or hazard zones are based on quick free-space calculations, with higher-fidelity simulation provided by an automated interface to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Joint Radio-frequency Effectiveness Model (JREM) HPM weapon engagement simulation tool. EMITTERS is being positioned to support the HPM test approval process reflected in Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Manual (CJCSM) 3212.04 (DRAFT). On our recent development effort, Verus Research implemented feature requests from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) intended to standardize and streamline the analysis process. 130 Beta Users are working with EMITTERS now, and Verus Research is currently working with our Transition Partner, the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO), on recommendations for future development.
