The mitigation of the effects of directed energy is an active area of research and development. All mechanisms for protecting systems and personnel from high energy laser (HEL) and high power microwave (HPM) attack are within the scope of this conference. The Second Directed Energy (DE) Effects Mitigation Conference will be held at the Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey, CA during 6-10 April 2009 as a part of the DE Systems Symposium. A goal of this year’s conference is to enhance technical excellence while providing a forum to encourage interaction with other members of the DE community. To that end, presentations will screened for new and innovative work.

Call for Papers Contributions are solicited for presentation at the Directed Energy Effects Mitigation Conference. Technical sessions will be organized around the mitigation of HEL and HPM effects on critical US infrastructure, military systems, and personnel. Items of interest include but are not limited to novel ways to mitigate through, shielding, filtering, software, active protection, reflection, coatings, EO/IR systems, disruption of beam steering, and personnel protection. Submissions will also be considered for the poster session.
Abstracts The expected classification of presentations can only include Unclassified, Confidential, Secret, and Secret NOFORN. In addition, material with Distribution Statements A (Public Release), C (Government and their Contractors), D (Department of Defense and their Contractors), X (Export Controlled), and F (as directed by DoD controlling office) will be accepted. Note that distributions A, C, and X are encouraged to facilitate distribution of proceedings; material designated as distribution B and E will not be accepted; and presentations having Distribution Statement F will not be published in the conference proceedings. Abstracts should be in Microsoft Word 97-2003 format and submitted via email Effects@DEPS.org. The presentation should be appropriate for 30 minutes of presentation (including questions). Font sizes should be large enough for those in the back of a large auditorium to read (minimum of 20 point font). In addition, all presentations require that a presentation release form be submitted.
