Education is vital to the Directed Energy community. Fostering the professional growth of current
workers in the field and increasing the number of young, new members in the community are important
DEPS educational goals.
The 2026 Workshp is the twenty-fourth in a
series of DE Education Workshops to advance these goals.
The Workshops also consider current and future Directed Energy education programs around the
country.
The scope of the DE Education Workshop includes:
Graduate/post-graduate studies and technical vocational training
Oral presentations from all 2025-26 DE Graduate Scholars
Professional continuing education
Student motivators (prior grant recipients, fellowships)
Curriculum development
An exclusive Roundtable Reception for students and early career professionals (ECPs)
Additionally, the Workshop offers a sampling of the work currently being pursued
by students, especially those supported by ONR research grants. The Workshop is
intended to be a low-threat environment, offering the speaker an opportunity to gain technical
presentation experience and, of course, to present their interesting research.
Proceedings from previous Workshops are available through the
DEPS online store.
Call for Papers
Contributions are being solicited for inclusion in the program of the Education Workshop.
Suitable topics include any within the scope of the Workshop of the Annual Symposium (Click here
to see the Annual S&T Symposium Call for Papers.)
Abstracts must be unclassified, suitable for public release, and submitted by 5 March 2026.
Education Workshop presenters are encouraged to give their presentations in the technical sessions of the Annual DE S&T Symposium
in addition to their workshop presentation. Email Melissa@deps.org to coordinate a place in the Symposium agenda.
Contact webmaster@deps.org with any technical issues regarding
abstract submission. Subject matter questions regarding abstracts should be directed to Melissa@deps.org.
*Please note, if you are a 2025-26 DEPS Graduate Scholar, you are strongly encouraged to submit an
abstract and present either in a technical session at the Annual DE S&T Symposium OR at the DE Education Workshop. It is also
strongly encouraged you plan to present a poster as well during the Open poster session, Tuesday
evening, 30 March.
After notification of acceptance, the abstract authors will submit presentations, optional papers and release forms using the same
instructions and forms that are required of Symposium presenters. See
Symposium submission instructions.
Roundtable Reception
Back by popular demand! DEPS is once again hosting its special Roundtable Reception* on Monday, 30 March

possible career paths, this event is an excellent opportunity to expand both your knowledge base and your network of contacts. Don't miss your chance to exchange ideas
and critically engage with fellow academics and the esteemed leaders of the DE community.
*Please note, this reception is limited to current students and early career professionals only.
Appetizers and 1 drink ticket (must be 21 or older) will be provided to attendees.
