Our directed energy community includes government and industry leaders, scientists, engineers, undergraduate and graduate students, professors, early-career professionals, and others with an interest in DE. DEPS continues to expand its programs and services in response to new opportunities to advance the profession, and remains committed to helping bridge the gap between the next generation of scientists and engineers and today’s esteemed leaders.
As a member of DEPS, you will be connected to the largest network of directed energy professionals through ongoing professional development and networking opportunities, high-quality events, and timely access to the latest technical publications in the field.
If you have any questions about membership, please contact RAHEELA BOKHARI.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
DEPS members elect three Board Directors every year, with directors serving three-year terms. The Nominations Committee selects at least six qualified nominees whose election would further the Society’s mission and goals. Candidate statements are shared with the membership prior to the one-month voting period. This typically occurs in the spring, prior to the Science and Technology Symposium, where results are announced. Each member may cast one vote for each open Director position.
ANNUAL REPORTS
Annual Reports from previous years are presented to the membership each year at the Annual Directed Energy Science and Technology Symposium by the President of the Board of Directors. These reports commonly include strategic objectives, annual accomplishments, current initiatives, newly appointed fellows, an overview of the organization’s financial status, and more.
DEPS Member Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer activities not only enable DEPS to effectively serve the Directed Energy community, but they also offer valuable opportunities for professional growth and development. A selection of DEPS volunteer opportunities is listed below.
Meetings
While there are several ways to support DEPS, the primary avenue for volunteer involvement is through our events. The wide range of technical topics covered in our meetings allows volunteers to align their interests and expertise with event content. We rely on volunteers to chair and organize technical sessions, serve on event committees, and support various other event-related activities.
To volunteer for an event, please contact the event chair listed on the event’s webpage, or reach out to the technical program coordinator.
Committees
Event committees focus on short-term objectives…the successful execution of a meeting. DEPS members also engage in longer-term efforts through committees dedicated to specific technical or educational areas. The Directed Energy Outreach Campaign seeks volunteers to support and advance its programs. The DEPS Board is also open to establishing new committees in other areas as needs and opportunities arise.
